attack helicopter

Rotorwash

A gunship flying fast and low over ten theatres, from jungle river to volcano, in the vertical shoot-'em-up style of the old arcade 1945 games.

About

You fly an attack helicopter up a scrolling map, the way the arcade shooters of the nineties did it, over jungle, desert, open sea, canyon, arctic, swamp, city, a storm fleet, an alpine pass and a volcano. Each stage has its own enemies, a mid-stage fight and a boss built out of parts you shoot off one at a time. Villages, silos and fishing boats burn if you hit them, cloud banks roll in between areas, and the whole thing is seen through a satellite feed. The best runs go on a global leaderboard.

How it plays
  1. 01

Move with the arrow keys, WASD, a gamepad or by dragging. The cannon fires on its own, holding Shift slows you down and tightens the spread, and X drops a bomb that clears every bullet on screen.

  2. 02

Only the small red dot in the middle of the helicopter can be hit, so you can fly much closer to bullets than it looks. Grazing them is worth points.

  3. 03

Pick up P to widen your guns, B for another bomb, S for a support drone and stars for medals. Burning buildings and a stage with no lives lost add to the bonus.

  4. 04

Every stage ends in a boss whose core is armoured until you destroy the turrets around it. Get as far as you can and put your score on the leaderboard.
